Our Story
Hello! I’m Andy Hadden, founder of Lost Shore Surf Resort, Europe’s largest wave pool and an exciting new addition to the Scottish staycation and leisure market. Between our incredible surfing waves, waterside accommodation and restaurants and wellness studio, and set in a 60-acre country park, there is something for everyone.
My passion for surfing began when I was 7 years old and the love for sport and outdoor adventure has run through my family’s blood for generations.
“Back in 2013, I was introduced to a group of very special engineers at Wavegarden in the Spanish Basque Country. What I saw that day was what I believed to be the epicentre of the surfing world, using state-of-the-art technology that could provide unprecedented access to this exciting and transformative sport and change the face of surfing. ”
Coming from Scotland, home to some of the world’s best waves, scenery, tourist attractions and a wonderful growing surfing community, I wondered if I could create a plan that would elevate our country’s already world leading status as a destination, and bring a paradise for surfers of all abilities. A resort that families and friends can enjoy, whether surfing or not, and a place to escape from it all. Somewhere truly inclusive and authentically Scottish.
Over the last ten years I’ve worked to overcome numerous challenges to bring this landmark destination to life. I’ve grown my incredible team and worked with fantastic local companies and partners every step of the way.
Scotland has a long history for innovation, collaboration, education, and a love for the great outdoors, and Lost Shore has already delivered many world firsts. We funded the world’s first PhD in surf therapy, examining the enormous physical and mental benefits that surfing brings. We’ve embarked on a global first in our academic collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University to create the Surf Lab.
“One of the first things that we’ve tested in the Surf Lab is the warmth and performance of our wetsuits and we’re very proud to stock the world’s first largest rental fleet of plant based wetsuits. We’re really committed to staying at the forefront of innovation.”
Why did I set the business up in this way? Because I believe that people who visit Lost Shore Surf Resort will not just want to experience the very best surfing waves, stay in some of the UK’s coolest accommodation, and taste the best from some of Scotland’s most exciting restaurants, I believe people also want to be in an environment that is authentic and inspiring. Somewhere relatable. If we can do that we’ll provide the platform to let our customers create their own memories, have their own fun, and leave our resort a little happier.
We put a lot of thought and care into what we believe visitors will want to see at our resort. We’re here to stay and we want you to help us shape this destination long into the future.
This is just the start of the journey and we can’t wait to welcome you to this very special surf resort!
