FAQs
Surfing
What is the difference between a session and lesson?
In a lesson, an instructor will guide you in a safe and fun manner from the beginner waves to improver waves and beyond. In a session you surf independently like you would in the ocean.
Are there changing facilities?
Yes, we have heated and accessible indoor changing rooms with lockers, showers and hair dryers located in our changing area.
Are there lifeguards?
Yes, we will have fully qualified lifeguards on duty when the Cove is operational. Our surf instructors and coaches are also qualified in all aspects of water safety.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes, you need to be able to swim at least 25 metres unaided. We strongly recommend that all participants taking part in an activity must be water confident too.
What is the minimum age?
6 – Children under the age of 6 years old will not be permitted in the Cove.
Do I need to bring a wetsuit?
We will provide you with high quality 5/4mm wetsuits, boots, gloves, a hood and a surfboard as a part of your lesson or session. You are more than welcome to bring your own if you would like to.
Do I need to have surfing experience?
No, we welcome all levels of surfers even those that have never surfed before! Our ISA qualified instructors will help you learn and progress and will ensure that you have a lot of fun doing so.
How many surfers in a lesson or session?
The number of surfers in a lesson will be a maximum of 8 surfers per instructor. The number of surfers in a session will vary depending on the session. We will always ensure that we are providing a safe, fun and pressure free experience.
Can I use my own board?
We have a range of softboards that are free to use and a variety of higher performance boards that are available to rent.
- Our Beginner lessons will always be on our Indio softboards.
- For Improver lessons we recommended using our softboards, but you can use your own softboard if it is approved by our surf coaches.
- In our sessions you can use your own board, rent from us, or use our free softboards (however these are not recommended on Manoeuvres, Barrels, or High Performance sessions).
Is the water cold?
We are not blessed with consistently warm water in Scotland but we have carefully picked the best 5/4mm wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoods to ensure your warmth and comfort.
