About Us

Scotland has always been a country of innovation and future facing ambition, which has proven itself to be capable of punching well above its weight. Lost Shore intends to continue this bold tradition by bringing a world-first and world-beating surf resort to the outskirts of the capital. Stretching over 60 acres, our country park will be home to Europe's largest inland surf destination. A 160 metre-long Wavegarden Cove-powered facility will be the centrepiece of the resort, offering a surfing experience like no other, for those of all abilities, experience and ambition. Lost Shore will produce predictable and tailored waves for everyone.

However, it's the range of other activities and leisure offerings that make Lost Shore so special. Before, after, or instead of your surf, you can relax and take time to enjoy a host of other delights and attractions on offer.

Wavegarden Cove

Wavegarden

Based in the Basque Country, in Northern Spain, Wavegarden has been at the forefront of the surf park industry since 2005 and are now leading this rapidly growing sector thanks to their latest technology, the Wavegarden Cove.

This modular system uses mechanical paddles powered by electric motors to create wave-like movements in the water, similar to ocean swells. Not only is this the first customised wave generation technology for surfing, but it’s also the most sustainable solution in the industry, consuming less energy than a single chairlift at a ski resort.

Through our partnership with Wavegarden, we will be able to generate up to 1000 waves per hour and easily adjust their characteristics with a simple push of a button, making them accessible to beginners and professional surfers alike.

Our Journey so far

Cove Construction Begins

We believe surfing has the potential to improve the health of a nation. Our 160-metre surf lake will be powered by world-leading Wavegarden Cove technology and will be the largest in Europe. Capable of delivering up to 1000 perfect waves/hour, the footprint for our entire resort is an incredible 20,000 square metres.

The earthworks process prepared our site for the construction of our state-of-the-art surf lake -  the centrepiece of our resort. During this process we consolidated and landscaped the quarry floor to provide a solid platform for the building phase to commence.

Planning Permission

For decades, surfers have dreamt of a solution to the one thing stopping them from accessing the sport they love – consistent waves. Wavegarden technology can create some of the best waves imaginable, again and again. With permission granted by Edinburgh City Council, our prayers are finally answered.

Land Acquisition

Our ambition is to create a landscape-led site with natural habitat biodiversity, for which Craigpark Quarry is the perfect fit. This quarry, located on the outskirts of Edinburgh, provides a dramatic natural backdrop but gives protection from prevailing winds thanks to its natural amphitheatre shape.

Wavegarden Exclusivity

Our epic journey begins. We partner with the world-beating Wavegarden, a Spanish wave technology provider with the sole objective of bringing inland surfing to Scotland. Tartan Leisure has secured Wavegarden rights to Scotland, meaning that Lost Shore Surf Resort will be one of its kind.

How to find Lost Shore

Located in Ratho, we’re only 5 minutes from Edinburgh airport and 8 miles from the city centre. We are also at the meeting point of Scotland’s main motorway systems: M8 and M9.

Our next-door neighbour is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, so we’re in good company when it comes to family-friendly exhilaration. Combining Europe’s largest climbing facility, with Europe’s largest and most advanced surfing venue will create a force to be reckoned with.
