About Lost Shore

Scotland has always been a country of innovation and future facing ambition, which has proven itself to be capable of punching well above its weight. Lost Shore intends to continue this bold tradition by bringing a world-first and world-beating surf resort to the outskirts of the capital. Stretching over 60 acres, our country park will be home to Europe's largest inland surf destination. A 160 metre-long Wavegarden Cove-powered facility will be the centrepiece of the resort, offering a surfing experience like no other, for those of all abilities, experience and ambition. Lost Shore will produce predictable and tailored waves for everyone.

However, it's the range of other activities and leisure offerings that make Lost Shore so special. Before, after, or instead of your surf, you can relax and take time to enjoy a host of other delights and attractions on offer.

We’re passionately inclusive - Lost Shore is a place for all to enjoy. Our aim is to enrich the health and wellbeing of everyone who comes and visits. We are ambitious too and intend to change the landscape of Scottish tourism by establishing Scotland as the go-to destination for adventure.

Adrenaline-inducing activities alongside peaceful relaxation, luxury accommodation and shopping, what more could you want! A trip to Lost Shore allows you to mix family-fun, culture, and activity to create memories like no other.

Inland Surfing

The birth of inland surfing is relatively recent but wave pools are already stretching across the world.

The great thing about inland surfing is that it’s designed for all abilities.  Less intimidating to novices than the open ocean and delivering more consistent waves for experienced surfers.

It’s a new era in surfing. We look forward to bringing you on the journey and to seeing the sport we love continue to grow, develop and thrive.

First Bits of the Wavegarden Kit

An interesting steel structure is being built in the central spine of the pool; the engine room! Once finished, it will be a very distinctive feature onsite and it will house the wave generator, one of the most important parts of the wave pool. The generator consists of independent modules, and we will get 52 of those, more than anyone else in Europe!

Making Progress

Thanks to our construction partners, works onsite are progressing at a good pace, on track for our September opening. It’s very exciting to see our Hub buildings taking shape, where the food courts, the surf shop and the treatment room will be contained, among other amenities. Also, the first lodges built by Aspire recently arrived on-site, a key part of our accommodation offering.

Cove Construction Begins

We believe surfing has the potential to improve the health of a nation. Our 160-metre surf lake will be powered by world-leading Wavegarden Cove technology and will be the largest in Europe. Capable of delivering up to 1000 perfect waves/hour, the footprint for our entire resort is an incredible 20,000 square metres.

Earthworks Completed

The earthworks process prepared our site for the construction of our state-of-the-art surf lake -  the centrepiece of our resort. During this process we consolidated and landscaped the quarry floor to provide a solid platform for the building phase to commence.

Construction Begins

Malcolm Construction begins works onsite, with a brief to create Europe's Largest Inland Surf Resort.  Project managed by our partners Doig and Smith, we begin building something truly exciting for Scotland and beyond which will inspire all who visit.

Resort Concept

We move a step closer to realising our unique vision of a world-first ‘surf resort’ format, where people can completely immerse themselves in surfing and leisure for a short stay or a long break. We are granted permission for building our premium pods and luxury lodges around the Cove.

Planning Permission

For decades, surfers have dreamt of a solution to the one thing stopping them from accessing the sport they love – consistent waves. Wavegarden technology can create some of the best waves imaginable, again and again. With permission granted by Edinburgh City Council, our prayers are finally answered.

Land Acquisition

Our ambition is to create a landscape-led site with natural habitat biodiversity, for which Craigpark Quarry is the perfect fit. This quarry, located on the outskirts of Edinburgh, provides a dramatic natural backdrop but gives protection from prevailing winds thanks to its natural amphitheatre shape.

Wavegarden Exclusivity

Our epic journey begins. We partner with the world-beating Wavegarden, a Spanish wave technology provider with the sole objective of bringing inland surfing to Scotland. Tartan Leisure has secured Wavegarden rights to Scotland, meaning that Lost Shore Surf Resort will be one of its kind.
